Condition

Chronic Pain

Pain that has lasted beyond the usual healing time and is now affecting movement, sleep and mood.

When pain lasts for months, it is no longer a simple signal from an injured part of the body. Sleep, stress, activity levels and confidence all start to interact with it, and a reduced activity level in turn makes muscles and joints less tolerant.

Physiotherapy therefore works on several fronts at once: calming the painful area, rebuilding tolerance for movement, and giving you a clear, graded plan rather than all-or-nothing activity.

How physiotherapy can help

A typical programme combines manual therapy, electrotherapy such as TENS or interferential therapy where appropriate, graded exercise and practical pacing advice. Progress is measured by what you can do again — walking further, sitting through a meal, sleeping better — not only by the pain score.

If the assessment suggests the pain needs a medical review, the clinic will say so and refer you onward.
